Course content
Infertility - diagnosis and treatment, assisted reproduction, anatomy and physiology of the female genital tract, climacterium, senium, HRT, menstrual cycle, developmental anomalies, urogynecology, endocrinology. Gynecological examination including medical history, papsmear, sonography. Inflammations, STD, family planning, contraception, termination of pregnancy, menstrual cycle disorders, dysfunctional bleeding, oncogynecology, operative treatment in gynecology including miniinvasive surgery. High risk pregnancies, delivery and breech delivery, multiple pregnancies, vaginal and abdominal obstetric operations. Physiological pregnancy prenatal diagnosis, sonography in pregnancy, evaluation and newborn treatment, intensive care in the field of preterm birth newborn. Emergencies in obstetrics and gynecology, ectopic pregnancy. Puerperium breast feeding rooming in, pathologies in puerperium like breeding, inflammation or psychical problems.

Learning outcomes
The general objective of the discipline is to acquire the basic theoretical as well as practical knowledge in the field of Obstetrics including spontaneous deliveries and possible alternatives, pharmacotherapy in pregnancy, pathologies in pregnancy, physiologic changes during puerperium and possible pathologies. They also should obtain basic theoretical as well as practical knowledge in the field of Gynecology, particularly gynecologic examination, therapy of inflammation, gynecologic operations. They will deepen their theoretical knowledge in the field of family planning, infertility, developmental anomalies, endometriosis and tumours of reproductive organs. An integral part of the training are also emergencies.
After completion of the course student should be able to perform to take a relevant patient history, a obstetric examination, knowledge spontaneous delivery and to deliver the baby on mannequins. Furthermore knows how to take care of a patient in a puerperium and how to deal with emergencies in obstetrics. On mannequins he/she is able to examine a patient, judge the size, consistence and possible tenderness of the non- pregnant uterus and the ovaries, knows the principles of treatment in inflammatory diseases. He/she has basic theoretical knowledge in reproductive medicine, infertility and emergencies in gynecology.

Completion of the 4th class in General medicine study programme.
CH1/VA013 and PAT/VAB11 and PFY/VAB11 and CJA/VAB43

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam

After completion of the course the student should be able to identify patients with conditions/problems related to certain defined clinical situations. For each of these specified clinical situations the student should be able to describe and explain pathophysiological mechanisms of the most frequent diseases, their prevention and therapy, important differential diagnoses, patient care. The integral part of the course is also communication with patient and her family before summer training. Testing of practical skills during teaching is performed on gynecological and obstetric simulators in Centesimo.
