Course content
|
The aim of this course is the ability to present doctoral research proposal containing rationale, background, research objectives, methodology used, the decision on the population and sample, data collection methods, analysis methods and other specifics. The operational objective is to develop the capacity for critical assessment of other research studies. The course is also focused on common problems and ways to solve them. Learning outcomes
|
The aim of this examination is to improve the ability of students to present doctoral research project (conceptual and technical research plan) containing a theoretical review, research objectives, methodology, description of population and sample, methods of data gathering, analysis methods and other. Other objective is to develop skills of critical assessment of published research studies. The exam is also focused on common methodological problems and ways of their solution.
The graduate gains the following competences: - knows how to manage a good recherché according to the subject of research - focuses on methodological literature - gets knowledge in the new methods (quantitative and qualitative designs) - is able to use software solutions (SPSS, Statistics, Atlas.ti, etc.). - knows the principles for administration of research projects and publication outputs. - knows the issue of validity, psychometry, and the development of standards. - is able to write a research proposal for the theme of the dissertation

Assessment methods and criteria

Requirements for successful completion of the doctoral examination: 1) Students must write their individual research proposal (about 5 A4 pages) containing the rationale, background, research objectives, methodology used, the decision on the population and sample, data collection methods, analysis methods and other specifics. Emphasis is on asset adequacy of the methods, the knowledge of the use of these methods and the reference to the current methodological literature. 2) Second part of the exam is critical evaluation of methodological research study published in the international journal of student?s choice (ideally thematically linked to the topic of the dissertation). Evaluated is the ability to assess the strengths and weaknesses of research studies, orientation in the English terms and the overall knowledge of the methodology literature.
