Course content
The course is divided into workshops (in-person), e-learning, and individual consultations. The participants get feedback on their own manuscripts. By the end of the summer semester, they should have an article ready for publication. If you are interested in this course, please have a first draft of the article ready and sign up for the course already in the winter semester of the respective academic year. If you have any questions, contact the lecturer (lucie.viktorova@upol.cz). The course covers the following topics: 1. Philosophy of publishing - where to publish (Czech and foreign publishers, peer review, impact factor), what to publish (a book chapter, an article, types of articles), why to publish (academic points, personal interest), and in what language (Czech, foreign language); 2. The ethics of publishing (e.g., acknowledgments, authorship, risks of predatory journals, licensing - open-source, creative commons, etc.); 3. Writing style and formal requirements for research articles, argumentation rules; 4. APA writing and formatting style basics, incl. pictures, graphs, tables, etc.; 5. A critical analysis of own and other's texts

Learning outcomes
The course is taught in English and it is meant for doctoral students who are preparing a theoretical or empirical study (research article) for publication. The aim is to prepare the manuscript in a way that is suitable for publication. The meeting will be held on Friday, October 20th, at Tř. Svobody 26, room 3.51.
The graduate will have these competences and skills: - knows the publication norms, - knows how to structure a scientific text, - knows where to publish, - is able to write a scientific text.
Prerequisites
Have prepared the first rough manuscript/draft of an article (review or research study) in Czech, Slovak, or English, which will be discussed and fine-tuned within the course.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance, Analysis of Creative works (Music, Pictorial,Literary)

Course and examination requirements: 1) active participation at the seminars, 2) preparation for the seminars, 3) writing a manuscript draft of future research article (theoretical or empirical study) and re-writing it according to the lecturer's feedback.
