Course content
Fundamentals of molecular pathology; Predictive and prognostic pathology; Fundamentals of oncology; Carcinogenesis, oncogenes, tumor suppresors, cancer stem cells, types of cell death; Current and emerging therapies of cancer. Basic concepts of general and molecular pathology and methodological basis; Predictive and prognostic pathology; basics of oncology, types of tumors and definitions (TNM classification, grading, invasive growth and metastasis); process of carcinogenesis, oncogenes and tumor suppressors, apoptosis and other types of cell death, theory of tumor stem cells; standard cancer therapy and translation of new therapies into practice (targeted therapy, antibodies, gene therapy, tumor vaccines and immunotherapy). 1. Basics of oncology, types of tumors and definitions (TNM classification, grading, invasive growth and metastasis) 4. Process of carcinogenesis, oncogenes and tumor suppressors, apoptosis and other types of cell death, theory of tumor stem cells 5. Standard tumor therapy and translation of new therapies into practice (targeted therapy, monoclonal humanized antibodies, gene therapy, tumor vaccines and immunotherapy) 6. Basics of histology (cellular, tissue and organ context for knowledge of molecular biology and genetics
