Course content
Definition of scientific research (the scientific method) methodology - Methodology; Source of social information. Research - Research - investigation. Knowledge and resources. Facts and data in science. Role of analytical procedures for formulating theories (deduction, induction). The issue of information openness of the natural system in the social sciences. Validity and reliability. The design of the sample. Criteria for research quality (depending on the paradigm). TYPES research in the field of media studies Quantitative and qualitative research. Research questions. Hypotheses. Possibilities and limitations of quantitative and qualitative research. Selecting an investigation. Goal Setting Research. The research and design research. Analysis and interpretation of data. Designing of social research, formulation of research question, developing of research tools, data collection and analysis, final report preparation, presentation of findings, pubicatin of findings.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to build ability of quantitative reseach techniques and to learn student conduct own research in studied field.
Ability to conduct empirical research in studied field by quantitative research methods.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of methodology of social sciences, ability to read academic texts in English.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

Designing of research proposal, final knowledge test. Access to the test is conditional - student is allowed to attend the test if finishes sucesfully the task 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 during the term.
