Course content
1. Term iconography, methodical proceedings in iconographical research 2. Text sources in Christian iconography, The Old and New Testament, Biblical apocrypha, Legenda Aurea, Speculum humanae salvationis etc. 3. Development of Christian iconography before the Edict of Milan. 4. Development of Christian iconography after the Edict of Milan in the region of Latin western Christian World and in the eastern Christian World. 5. Main aspects of Iconography in the Byzantine culture.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Lecture
  • Semestral Work - 30 hours per semester
  • Homework for Teaching - 90 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The lecture put emphasis on Christian iconography, its development from early Christian times up to the beginning of modern period. Student should learn practical analytical method and effective use of modern handbooks, especially in German language.
Basic knowledge of Christian iconography ? in the region of Latin western and eastern Christian world.
Prerequisites
Subject is designated for students of Visual Education.

Student performance

The condition for graduation of exam is knowledge of the topics discussed in lectures. Desirable is good orientation in competent pictorial material.
