Course content
Principles of democratic functioning of society and state. Principles of political pluralism. Man and the Institute of Elections. The importance of social dialogue in society. Democratic principles in the management of the state and public institutions. Education for democracy in the curriculum of elementary schools.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students - future teachers of civics and social sciences - with the basic principles of democracy and key features of democratic decision-making and state management. Attention will be paid to issues of political pluralism, social dialogue, the importance and function of individual types of elections and ways of applying the given thematic areas to the curriculum of elementary school.
At the end of the course students should be able to: - to characterize the basic principles of the democratic functioning of society and the state, - explain the essence of political pluralism and its role in society, - characterize the role of social dialogue and its importance for the functioning of society, - analyze the importance and impact of each type of election, - describe the possibilities of adequate use of particular topics in the curriculum of primary and secondary school.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledges on the field of social sciences in the range of secondary school curriculum.
