Course content
Minorities and minority policy in the Czech Republic and other countries. The position and role of minorities. Origin and genesis of minorities in the given territory. Representation of members of national and ethnic minorities in institutions. Minorities and Czech education. Rights of national minorities.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students - future teachers of civics and social sciences - with the role, status and history of minorities, both in general and Czech countries. Attention will be paid to current issues of minority policy, representation of persons belonging to minorities in institutions - especially in the field of education, rights of national and ethnic minorities and other aspects.
At the end of the course students should be able to: - characterize the position and role of specific minorities in society, - explain the origin and genesis of minorities in a particular territory, - analyze the importance and impact of minority policy in the selected territory, - characterize the position of persons belonging to minorities in the context of Czech education, - describe the possibilities of adequate use of particular topics in the curriculum of primary and secondary school.
Prerequisites
Prerequisites and co-requisites Basic knowledge of history, contemporary history and social sciences in the scope of secondary school curriculum.
