Course content
Topics: Ancient concept of ethics (Socrates, Aristotle, Platon). Natural Law (T. Aquinas). Social contract theory (T. Hobbes, J. Locke, J. J. Rousseau). Utilitarianism (J. Bentham, J. S. Mill). Empiricism (D. Hume). Morality and morality, categorical imperative (I. Kant). Morality and Power (F. Nietzsche). Existentialism (S. Kierkegaard, M. Heidegger, J.P. Sartre).

Learning activities and teaching methods
Dialogic Lecture (Discussion, Dialog, Brainstorming)
  • Attendace - 10 hours per semester

  • Semestral Work - 20 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The course will be presented to students historical interpretation of ethics and the most important representatives of individual directions. Emphasis will be put on linking the acquired knowledge with the theoretical background and systematic concept of ethics, which students have learned in lectures and self-study. During the seminar, students will elaborate a seminar paper that will correspond to the topics and present them in the seminar.
At the end of the course students should be able to: "characterize individual personalities and their contribution to ethics, "to clarify the background of the epoch in which specific ethical theories were formulated, "explain the nature of the ethical views of the personalities, "enumerate ethical directions in chronological terms, "apply ethical theories to concrete contemporary examples of human behavior. "be able to apply ethically and morally appropriate arguments in dialogue and condemn incorrect forms of communication
Prerequisites
The prerequisite is the orientation of students in the literature and knowledge of basal terminology.
