Course content

Antic concept of ethics (Socrates, Aristotle, Plato). Natural law (T. Aquinas). The social contract theory (T. Hobbes, J. Locke, J. J. Rousseau). Utilitarism (J. Bentham, J. P. Mill). Empiricism (D. Hume). Morals and manners, the categorical imperative (I. Kant). Morality and Power (F. Nietzsche). Existentialism (S. Kierkegaard, Heidegger, J.P. Sartre).

Learning outcomes
|
The course will be presented historical interpretation of ethics and the most important representatives of individual directions. Emphasis will be placed on linking the acquired knowledge with a theoretical foundation and systematic conception of ethics that students acquired under a previous course. After completing the course, students should be able to: "Characterize individual personalities and their contribution to ethics, "Clarify the historical background of the period in which they were formulated specific ethical theory, "Explain the nature of the personalities ethical opinions, "Enumerate ethical guidelines from the chronological point of view, "Apply ethical theory to specific contemporary examples of human behavior.
Interpretation of the various ethical theories within the historical context.
