Course content
1) Neo-absolutism in Austria, its fall and the beginnings of parliamentarism. 2) Political development in the Czech lands in the 2nd half of the 19th century. 3) World War I and foundation of the Czechoslovak Republic. 4) Czechoslovak Republic - the political, economical and cultural development. 5) World economic crisis, the CSR at risk and its dissolution. 6) World War II, occupation and liberation of the CSR. 7) CSR in the post-war world, establishment of a communist system. 8) The 1960's in Czechoslovakia, the Prague Spring and normalization. 9) The 1980's in the CSSR, the end of a totalitarian system and the dissolution of Czechoslovakia.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is good knowledge and analysis of key events, persons and documents of older as well as modern Czech history in relation to the modern Czech statehood and in the context of European and the world history. The attention is paid to the history of minorities (Germans, Jews, Gipsies) and the conflicts and their influence on the Czech society both of the past and present.
Interpretation of major events in Czech history in the period.

Mark

Participation and activity in seminars, elaboration of a comparative time table, elaborated analysis of historical documents, submitted semester thesis, completion of a credit test in the extent of 60%.
