Course content
Subject's contents: Information technology and its classification. Types of computer networks based on various aspects, advantages and disadvantages, network operating systems. Structure and operation of a computer network. Internet - characteristics, Internet as an information source. Computer viruses and protection against them, types of viruses based on various aspects, antivirus programmes, symptoms of viruses, principles of safe PC work. Operating systems - characteristics, classification. Basic classification of hardware. Application software - classification, characteristics of programmes. Peripheries (scanners, printers, etc.) Multimedia. Office programme packages. Graphic programmes, Compression programmes - purpose, classification, characteristics. Presentation programmes. Learning programmes suitable for pre-schools and getting information from servers focused on schools.

Learning outcomes
The aim of this subject is to provide students with sufficient practical knowledge for effective uses of information technologies in kindergartens. Special attention is given to progressive information technologies of today, such as computers. Additional contents of the subject include a basic orientation in computer networks (particularly in respect to the graduate's background) and the fundamental structures of PC hardware and software.
On completion of the course, students should be able to: define basic terms used in IT and explain relations between them; be familiar with basic structure of computer networks, and with computer hardware and software.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of informatics and computer skills at secondary school level

Assessment methods and criteria
Seminar Work

100% attendance at tutorials. Usage of ICT at higher user's level. Ability to work in LMS of Palacky University (UNIFOR, see learning multimedia LMS files). Successful passing of a final test in ICT applications in the education environment. Elaboration of two assigned final tasks.
