Course content
|
The course content consists of visits to the following sites: Excursion 1: - The Moravian Karst: the Macocha Abyss - The Pilgrimage Church in Křtiny (a work by Jan Blažej Santini-Aichl) - Výpustek Cave (a former secret aircraft engine factory) - Předklášteří near Tišnov: the Cistercian monastery of Porta Coeli Excursion 2: - Kroměříž: visit to the chateau, the Podzámecká Garden, and the Church of St. Maurice - The pilgrimage site of Velehrad - The hillfort of St. Clement - The Salaš lookout tower Excursion 3: - Suchý vrch - Bouda Fortress (anti-Nazi fortifications from the period preceding the Second World War) - Králíky: the pilgrimage site of the Mount of the Mother of God (Hedeč) and a visit to the Memorial to the Victims of Internment For each visited site, every student will receive a brief summary of the most important information. The content of each excursion may be modified due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g., adverse weather conditions, temporary site closures, etc.).

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of this course is to broaden students' knowledge of historically and culturally significant sites in the Czech Republic, with a particular focus on Moravia.
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to provide a brief historical and cultural description of the visited landmarks, with due regard to their significance in both Czech and European history.

Prerequisites
|
A prerequisite for the successful completion of the course is personal participation in expert-led excursions and the acquisition of the prescribed body of specialized knowledge related to the visited heritage sites.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Written exam
Restrictions on course enrollment: Due to the limited capacity of the means of transport (a 9-seat vehicle), students are required to enroll in the course as early as possible. Enrollment will be limited to the first eight registered students. To obtain credit, the following requirements must be met: - 100% personal attendance - with payment of expenses: Before each field trip, the instructor will inform students of the entrance fees, the amount of the transportation contribution, and provide other practical details. The instructor strives to organise everything as cost-effectively as possible. - Successful completion of the final test (multiple-choice format).
