Course content
Topic outline: 1. Global transformation of modernity, its manifestations and consequences as a framework for the development of sociology. 2. Sociology within social sciences: The state of social sciences in the world, appeal to their restruc-turing in the light of the Gulbenkian Commission Report - Impulses Reports for Sociology, Criti-cism Reports. 3. Definition of the field of contemporary sociology, key topics: modernization; revision of politi-cal units; mass migration; citizenship; human rights; inequalities; family / work transformation, technological development. 4. Diversification of the structure of sociology. Sociology as an Institutionalized Practice of Pro-ducing and Circulating Knowledge: The Role of ISA / ESA in Setting Agenda and Organization of International Debate in Sociology. 5. Focus and character of theoretical discussions in contemporary sociology: The need for a "new" understanding of social change - transformation of the theoretical positions of sociology, redefini-tion of concepts, theories? 6. Key methodological problems. Redefinition of empirical research topics, new research questions, challenges for a quantitative and qualitative approach and their integration, advances in method development. 7. Selected sociological approaches I: Relational sociology: society as a relationship. Critical real-ism in sociology (morphogenetic approach). Selected Sociological Approaches II: Sociology of Networking Society. 8. Selected sociological approaches III: Cultural sociology. 9. Sociology on the way from national, resp. Euro-American hegemony to ethnocentrism: "A Cos-mopolitan turn" in social sciences. Comparative sociology (worlds of difference). Global sociology. 10. Relevance of sociological discourse for the public sphere - dialogue of sociology with the pub-lic at local, national, regional and global level, ways of cooperation. Selected sociological ap-proaches IV: Public sociology. 11. What does Czech sociology do/does not do at the beginning of the 21st century?

Learning outcomes
The course will provide students with an insight into the contemporary world, respectively. Czech sociology (from the 1990s to the present) and familiarize them with the ways sociology reflects so-cial change - the global transformation of modernity. It will point out the main issues of the current debate on the content, tasks and form of sociology and the key actors in this debate. Seminars are based on discussion of selected texts from professional literature and documents of international sociological associations (ISA, ESA), event. Czech Sociological Society. Aims: Students will gain knowledge about the state and trends of the development of sociological theory, methodology, empirical research and institutionalization of world or Czech sociology. They will be able to identify key topics of current sociological (theoretical and methodological) debate and critically assess its content and conclusions.

Prerequisites
Orientation in sociological theories from the period up to the middle of the 20th century.

Oral exam, Written exam

Continuous reading of set literature - preparation for discussion. The course is concluded with a written test and an oral exam.
