Course content
1. Definition of general sociology, paradigms, opposites 2. M. Weber, E. Durkheim, K. Marx, G. Mead, G. Simmel 3. Structural functionalism (society, man, behavior) 4. Theory of conflict (society, man, behavior) 5. Phenomenological sociology (society, man, behavior) 6. Symbolic interactionism (society, man, behavior) 7. Theory of rational choice (society, man, behavior) 8. Postmodernism, constructivism, post-structuralism

Learning outcomes
The course familiarizes the students with the basic structure of sociological knowledge, furthemore sociological concepts, approaches and personalities. The course is divided into the following sections: company, man-a social being. Social action; deviant behaviour. Each part is discussed from the viewpoint of the theory of structural functionalism, theory of conflict, phenomenological sociology, symbolic interakcionismu and the theory of rational choice. The course ends with information about postmodernism, construktivism, and poststrukturalism in sociology.
Students are able to identify the basic contradictions in view of social reality and they are acquainted with argumentation for and against every of contradictory views. They can asses the structure of society. They can anylyze social problems. Students are able to understand a social structure and social processes. They can consider social phenomena from the different perspectives. They understand the substance of social problems. They are able to suggest how to solve a social problems.

No prior requirements.

Assessment methods and criteria
Mark

Student has to pass an oral examination. He has to show knowledge of key problems of sociological concepts,theories and authors. He has to be able to analyze social problems.
