Course content
1. History of canoeing and river tourism, equipment, safety standards. 2. Getting in and out of a kayak and canoe, correct position, basic forward stroke, moving forward. 3. Basic steering strokes in a kayak and canoe, moving backward. 4. Basic manoeuvres in still water in a canoe in the position of both bowman and sternman, turns, side movement, traversing, back traversing. 5. Basic manoeuvres in still water in a kayak, turns, side movement, traversing, back traversing. 6. River morphology, river obstacles, technique and tactics on calm running water. 7. Basic manoeuvres in calm running water in a canoe in the position of both bowman and sternman, using a flow and counter-flow, streamline traversing. 8. Basic manoeuvres in calm running water in a kayak, using a flow and counter-flow, streamline traversing. 9. Straight movement and basic manoeuvres on a single canoe.

Learning outcomes
The course covers theoretical as well as practical aspects of the elementary level of using a tourist canoe and tourist kayak on calm running water up to ZWC difficulty class. Information about this course was translated to English within the project Internationalization of the Faculty of Physical Culture, Palacký University, Olomouc, No. CZ.1.07/2.2.00/28.0028, co-funded by the European Social Fund and the Government of the Czech Republic.
Upon completion of the course the student: - Knows the basic principles of canoeing and kayaking on water up to ZWC difficulty class; - Knows the basic principles of controlling a boat on running water of higher difficulty; - Is knowledgeable about the history of canoeing, appropriate equipment, and river morphology; - Observes safety standards of canoeing and kayaking on running water; - Is able to eliminate health risks ensuing from recreational pursuit of these activities.
Prerequisites
The training is designed exclusively for proficient swimmers.

Student performance, Didactic Test, Systematic Observation of Student

Credit requirements: 1) Practical skills - kayaking and canoeing technique in the position of both bowman and sternman (direct movement, traversing, using a flow and counter-flow) while using optimum stroking technique and respecting the varying nature of the water terrain. 2) Theoretical knowledge test.
