Main topics: Collecting and preparing main groups of plants and fungi Types of botanic collections Building up herbal materials and their protection; significant collections Collecting and preparing main groups of invertebrates and vertebrates Types of zoological collections Methods of collecting geological, mineralogical and paleontological materials Principles of managing collections of inanimate nature

Learning outcomes
Objectives and content: - To familiarise students with the methods of collecting and preparing main groups of plants and fungi (cyanobacterium and algae, fungi ? main ecologic groups, lichens, mosses, vascular plants) - To explain different types of botanic collections - To familiarise them with the principles of building up herbal materials and their protection, disinfection, disinsectization, and to present examples of significant collections - To explain the methods of collecting and preparing main groups of invertebrates and vertebrates - To explain different types of zoological collections (exsiccates, liquid-based preparations, molluscs? conchiolin, demoplastic preparations, bulks) and the respective principles of sustaining them - To explain the methods of collecting geological, mineralogical and paleontological materials, and the principles of managing collections of inanimate nature. The study programme also consists of field trips to specialised establishments.
The acquired knowledge can be used in own educational activities.

Interest in the field.

Seminar Work

A seminar paper on an individual topic related to the methods of collecting and preparing naturfacts.
