Tematická struktura kurzu KPE/REK1: 1) INTRODUCTION 2) INTRODUCTION TO CONFLICT RESOLUTION AND PEACE STUDIES 3) WAR IN HUMAN HISTORY. WAR AND STATE FORMATION. 4) TYPOLOGY OF CONFLICTS 5) THE REASONS FOR WARS 6) INTERNATIONAL CONFLICTS 7) INTRASTATE CONFLICTS 8) INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS AND CONFLICTS 9) UN and CONFLICTS 10) THE SECURITY DIMENSION OF THE ORGANIZATION FOR SECURITY AND CO-OPERATION IN EUROPE. 11) EU CIVILIAN MISSIONS 12) JUST WARS 13) COURSE WRAP UP AND FEEDBACK 3) Požadavky na studenta Semináře jsou povinné, jakož i četba a další příprava zadaná na každý z nich. Jsou tolerovány dvě absence v semináři. Účast v tomto kursu předpokládá pravidelné studium zadané četby, popř. poslech diskuzí analytiků oboru řešení konfliktů. Veškerá četba a další zdroje jsou uvedeny v sylabu kurzu, který je měněn před každým semestrem, kdy je kurz nabízen. Sylabus zahrnuje mj. seznam doporučených relevantních internetových zdrojů. Podmínkou k úspěšnému zakončení kurzu KPE/REK1 je vypracování recenze (kniha/text zadáván vždy aktuálně, pro přesný text daného semestru vizte daný sylabus); úspěšně vyplněný závěrečný zápočtový test; prezentace jednoho tématu na základě konkrétního textu/textů; aktivní účast v seminářích diskutujících zadanou četbu. 4) Získané způsobilosti Po absolvování kursu by měli být posluchači schopni analyzovat několik konkrétních ozbrojených konfliktů, představit aktéry, jejich představy a cíle, jakož i představit kontext daných konfliktů. Absolventi by měli porozumět hlavním trendům a výzvám oboru ŘK. The course covers the historical development as well as current core themes and debates in the field. It focuses on the process of conflict emergence, escalation, de-escalation and settlement as well as structural characteristics of interlinked conflict system, and modes of interaction between conflict participants. Students should build the intellectual skills of conflict diagnosis that is essential prior to any effort to initiate conflict settlement and resolution. The course is divided into two parts: 1. Learning outcomes
The aim of the two-semester long course (i.e. CR I, CR II) is to provide students with basic knowledge of the conflict resolution field. The course covers the historical development as well as current core themes and debates in the field. It focuses on the process of conflict emergence, escalation, de-escalation and settlement as well as structural characteristics of interlinked conflict system, and modes of interaction between conflict participants. Students should build the intellectual skills of conflict diagnosis that is essential prior to any effort to initiate conflict settlement and resolution. The course is divided into two parts: 1. Conflict Resolution I (KPE/REK1): addressing more general development in the conflict resolution field 2. Conflict Resolution II (KPE/REK2): focusing mainly on particular conflicts in the post-Cold War era

Assessment methods and criteria
Analysis of Activities ( Technical works), Analysis of Creative works (Music, Pictorial,Literary), Seminar Work

All students are expected to be prepared, i.e. to have completed allocated readings and assignments, so that they can participate fully in the subsequent discussion of the topic. The critical essay should be between 1,500-1,600 words in length, typed on both sides of paper, single-spaced. It should include a cover page with your name and a title of the book reviewed. The language of the work can be either English or Czech. The text should reflect an intellectual mastery of the topic as well as of the language. Final exam: Topics will be carefully chosen from lectures, discussed issues, and reading.
