Course content
The course concentrates on an analysis of the philosophical bases of the main principles of political thought from Ancient Greek until 18th century. The main issue is relation between the individual and society (the state). 1. Ancient political thought (Plato, Aristotle) 2. Medieval political thought (St. Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas, reformation) 3. Modern political thought (Machiavelli, Hobbes, Locke, Montesquieu, Rousseau, Burke)

Learning outcomes
The course concentrates on the philosophical assumptions, ideas, and political theories from Ancient Greek to the 18th century. Those theories participated on shaping of political systems and political practise of Euro-American society.
The graduate of the course will acquire survey about the philosophical assumptions, ideas, and political theories from Ancient Greek to the 18th century. Those theories participated on shaping of political systems and political practise of Euro-American society. The student comprehends philosophical conceptions that form the most important political theories from the Ancient Greek until 18th century. He or she knows their theoretical bases, practical results, and the main exponents. Students can analyse classic and academic text respectively, and they comprehend it. Students can present results of their academic work in public and they are also able to react quickly during a discussion related to the topic of the course. The graduate of the course can identify and formulate theoretical, i.e. above all political-philosophical context of present social action. It means he or she is able to orientate in relevant problems of the contemporary world.
