Course content
1. The definition, the history. The characterististics of the main genres. 2. The characteristics of the main genres (a report, a review, a gloss (a comment), an interview, a profile, a polemic) and examples in text. 3. A profile of a music critic. Professionalism, stylistic competence, moral principles. 4. Music magazines in the Czech Republic and abroad, cultural sections in the daily press. 5. Shows about music in radio and television, on CDs, etc. 6. The language aspect of musically critical and journalistic speeches. 7. The law of press, the freedom of speech, the code of ethics. 8. Graphical and typographical processing of a text. Proofreading marks. 9. The principles of a spoken speech. Writing for radio and television. 10. Objective and subjective music criticism and popularization of music. A critical assessment. 11. Regional music criticism and popularization. The dilemma of a music critic. 12. The most significant music critics in the Czech Republic and abroad.

Learning outcomes
To get familiar with the history, theory and practice of contemporary music criticism and popularization of music.
The knowledge of current trends of writing and principles of spoken speech. The ability to stylistically and factually adjust academic texts, write a text intended to be primarily both for read and spoken speech. The eligibility for the editorial, publishing and promotional work.

Oral exam, Student performance, Analysis of Creative works (Music, Pictorial,Literary), Seminar Work

75 percent of participation, activity, paper, writting of 6 genres: 1. Two news. 2. A comment. 3. A review of concert. 4. A review of opera. 5. A review of CD/DVD. 6. Programme notes.
