Course content
Elaboration of BA thesis is a necessary condition for final examination of BA Musicology programme to be held. The thesis topics are determined by Department's Undergraduate Studies Committee at the end of the fourth semester of study. Supervisor will give students detailed instructions on how to approach the topic theoretically and methodologically and on the schedule of their work. The progress of student´s work is subjected to his/her tutor´s advice, methods are elected according to theme´s characteristics.First part of the preparation is devoted to reading of relevant existing literature and selection of appropriate methods. Students regularly consult their Supervisor, and eventually also other students during a seminar held for this purpose. Second phase of the project consists in particular research activities, consultations with the supervisor, elaboration, revisions and following completion of the project.

Learning outcomes
An elaboration of diploma thesis. The aim is to test students´ ability in creative and research activity within selected field of study, which is consistent with their future professional or study orientation. Emphasis is placed on critical selection of methods, building relevant theoretical background, thorough analysis of theoretical and empirical materials and students´ particular contribution to the area of research.
After passing this course, students will be able to: - independently select and solve problems, - gather important information on the studied issues, analyze and specify it, - collect empirical data, systematize and process them in a methodologically correct way, - analyze empirical material applying theoretical background, - read and evaluate existing literature, choose appropriate theories, - compose written reports based on assigned points, - defense their projects.
Prerequisites
The course is offered only to the students of the study fields Humanities. Academic writing skills, a good knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods and basic knowledge of thesis lay-out style are assumed. In case of insufficient background knowledge, the supervisor will suggest reading material to make up for it. For taking the defence, it is necessary to obtain at least one recommending review.

An elaboration of specialized text in the minimal range of 40 pages. Formal requirements specification of the thesis are posted on the website of the Department of Musicology.
