Course content
The teaching topics correspond to the Framework Educational Programme for Lower Primary Schools: Number and numerical operations (natural and positive rational numbers, numerical calculations in the field of natural numbers). Dependencies, relations and work with data (functions and relations in school mathematics, the foundations of statistics and stochastics). Plane and space geometry (simple geometric shapes in plane and space and relationships between them, perimeters, areas, and volumes of solids). Non-standard application tasks and problems (motivational educational games and tasks, the use of heuristic methods at solving non-standard tasks).

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic Lecture(Interpretation, Training), Dialogic Lecture (Discussion, Dialog, Brainstorming)
Learning outcomes
The purpose of the subject is to enable students to acquire basic competencies needed for teaching mathematics at lower secondary school. The aim is to be achieved by the application of the knowledge gained in the theory-based subjects, their transformation into professional skills, their further development in didactic applications within the framework of mathematics classes, and the adaptation of the knowledge gained in teaching competency subjects to the conditions of mathematics lessons. Students should get to understand the system of the teaching of mathematics at secondary schools and capture the basic trends regarding the development of the latter.
In this course of study, the students gain competence to easily deal with the learning environment of the primary school mathematics lessons, to manage pupils' work, to evaluate the training results, and to creatively modify the teaching methods that they apply in mathematics lessons, in compliance with the age, mental, and social needs of their pupils.
Prerequisites
The successful completion of the course is conditioned by the mastery of basic mathematical skills acquired in the MAT1 - MAT4 courses of study and by the ability of the student to apply the aforementioned skills within the context of didactics.

Assessment methods and criteria
Seminar Work

Active participation in seminars, preparation of a seminar work on the topic related to school mathematics, its presentation in the seminar (in PowerPoint), a review and assessment of a selected textbook/textbook series for the teaching of mathematics at primary schools.
