Course content
Topics: 1. Specifics of communication in relation to classical media and the Internet, so-called new media. 2. New media and social networks. 3. Media technologies - history and present time, their influence on the formation and form of media messages. 4. Media product - content, meaning and its analysis. 5. Media education - history of media pedagogy, contemporary concepts of media education. 6. Topics of media education (media and violence, gender and equal opportunities, role of media in multicultural society). 7. Media influence on stereotypes (emphasis is placed on children and the youth). 8. Media in society - benefits and risks: advertising - language and cliché in marketing communication. 9. Media risks - the impact of violence on children and the youth, addiction / security on the Internet and social networks. 10. Media and political influence - public opinion and media, propaganda, methods of manipulation in this area. 11. Media education - specific activities - design of programs focused on media literacy

Learning outcomes
In today's world media play a very important role in the socialization, their influnce is often stronger that the impact of a family or school. The aim is to make teachers of religious education understand how media communication works. Teachers of religious education should also be able to work with the information and make children understand the media literacy. On the basis of the subject, the students will be able to design appropriate activities suitable for prevention of media risks in case of difference groups of children and the youth. - Knowledge of the specifics of communication in relation to traditional media and the Internet and their impact on contemporary society - Knowledge and skills in media literacy - Knowledge of the concepts of media education and education topics specified for different groups of social education - Skills for the creation of specific activities and programs to increase media literacy among different groups and to prevent the media risks
- Extended theoretical knowledge of the environment in which mass media operate - Personal development and competence in the field of media literacy - Competence for designing and planning of specific activities and programs aimed to increase media literacy among the target groups of social education, and prevent from media risks

Assessment methods and criteria
Analyssis of the Student's Portfolio, Seminar Work

To hand in a paper containing a set of activities that will lead to media literacy with a chosen group of children and the youth. The student is due to work with the distant text in Moodle.
