Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to prepare students for social work with foreigners. The specific objectives of the course include: To introduce the students with the issues of migration and integration of foreigners on various levels and in different dimensions; To make the students sensitive to specific problems of foreigners; To introduce the students with the methods of social work with foreigners and in favour of foreigners; To learn how to seek information related to foreigners efficiently; To develop students' critical thinking. This semester we will focus in particular on developing skills regarding work with majority in the context of foreigners' integration. The subject innovation has been supported by the project Support of Interdisciplinary studies and Study Programmes Innovations at Palacký University in Olomouc, CZ.1.07/2.2.00/28.0091.
Students are able to identify different aspects of foreigners' integration. They know problems that foreigners mostly deal with. They know and are able to apply the basic methods of social work with foreigners. They are able to seek proper information concerning foreigners and work with them. They can work with the Foreigners' Integration Concept. They are able to prepare a project of integration event.

Prerequisites
|
Since the course is offered in the frame of master study program, i tis expected that students have the basic knowledge regarding social work and will be able to use it in the context of work with migrants: paradigms, basic concepts (such as social functioning or ecological model); methods of SW in general. It is also expected that students know basic terms related to migration area and are able: 1) to talk about possible definition of terms such as: migration, immigration, emigration, refugees, bogus refugees, transit country, receiving and sending country, naturalisation; 2) to list and characterise types of migration and explain why dividing migration into voluntary and forced my be relative; 3) define stages of migration. There may be recommended additional reading to students who miss this basic knowledge or want to re-fresh it.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Written exam
Preparation and active participation in seminars (incl. work with compulsory reading). Active participation in work on team projects (to be submitted to Olomouc CPIC). Students are required to work withe the material published on edis.upol.cz/cmtf
