Course content
1. Policy advocacy in the context of social work 2. Policy, influencing policymaking and policy implementation and democracy 3. Policymaking at the state level 4. Policymaking at the local level

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce students to possibilities, barriers and tools of influencing the environment of their clients at the system level.
After completing the course students will - be able to characterize advocacy in social work; - know the place of advocacy in social work; - know the benefits and barriers of social workers' involvement in advocacy; - be able to justify citizen involvement in policymaking and implementation in a democratic system; - be familiar with the process of law-making in the Czech Republic and the possibilities of involvement in it; - be familiar with the process of municipal policymaking and the possibilities of intervention in it; - be able to give examples of social workers' involvement in influencing the social protection system and in policy advocacy at different levels.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge about social work macro practice. General orientation in questions related to democracy, Czech political system and civil society.
