Course content
Forerunners of social work in pre-modern times Social work predecessors in the modern era up to the 19th century The immediate formation of the new profession in the end of 19th century Development of social work in the Czech Republic until 1948

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is - to provide a structured understanding of the historical development of socially helpful activities, taking into account the influence of Christian inspirations - to provide a basis for understanding the contemporary foundations of social work - to support the student's identification with a professional identity
You'll be able to: - Identify the main historical forms of social policy, social welfare and social work You will acquire: - An indicative overview of the continuity of the historical development of social policy, social care and social welfare and social work You will be able to: - Delineate the differences between historical and modern forms of social policy, social welfare and social work in the context of social development.

Assessment methods and criteria
Seminar Work, Written exam

The student will pass the colloquium if: - he/she passes a review test of the obligatory literature during the semester - presents in seminar classes an individual or group paper in the form of a presentation documenting an individual person/milestone/event/institution from history, identifying the contribution/significance to contemporary social work (practice, education or research)
