Course content
History textbooks in the tides of time This course focuses on Czech history textbooks from Austria-Hungary to the contemporary ones. The first half of the semester will deal with the changes to school system during the specified era and the relation between history textbooks and historical memory and consciousness. The second part will focus on the usage of corpus linguistics in the textbook research. - Evolution of Czech school system from Austria-Hungary to today - History textbooks, historical memory, collective consciousness, national stereotypes - Corpus linguistics in textbook research - Analysis of textbooks in SketchEngine Literature KOVAŘÍČEK, Václav KOVAŘÍČKOVÁ, Iva: Vývoj školských soustav v českých zemích. Learning outcomes
This course focuses on Czech history textbooks from Austria-Hungary to the contemporary ones.
A graduate of this course is capable of orientation in fundamental trends of social, economical and political history including the knowledge of relevant sources and recent historiography. HF
Prerequisites
Student should have some basic knowledge about Middle Ages, esp. in Bohemia. HF
