Course content
Topics of lectures and seminars: 1. Overview of literature for history of church administrative, editions. Origins of church administration, origins of Czech church province and its administrative institutions until Hussite period. 2. Church administrative during Hussite period, development of the church and Utraquist church until 1620. 3. Church administrative after White Mountain, state influence, Enlightenment reforms of the church. 4. Church administrative after the Patent of Toleration until the foundation of the Czechoslovakia. 5. Changes of theposition og the Catholic church after 1918, origins of new churchs, administrative development to present. 6. Documents of central church offices of the Catholic church (archbishoprics, bishoprics, consistories). 7. Documents of other churches (Lower consistory, toleration churches, churches founded after 1918). 8. Organization and administration of Catholic parish and vicariar offices. 9. Diplomatics of parish and vicar administration. 10. Administration development of monasteries. 11. Diplomations of the church orders. 12. Introduction to methodical principles for organization of archive funds of institutions on all levels of church administration ((arch-)bishoprics, consistories, chapters, monasteries, vicar and parish offices). 13. Excursion to the archive to see diplomatic material of church fund (e.g. parish or vicar office or archive of the archbishopric).

Learning outcomes
Aim of the course is to introduce students with development of church administration in the Czech lands from its origins to the present. It will include not only issues of Catholic church, but also other churches (utraquism, neoutraquism, Unity of the Brethen, toleration churches and churches founded after 1918). Attention will be paid to documents of individual churches, to offices of church institutions and their products in different time periods. Church documents will be examined also from archivists point of view (introduction to general archival methodics focusing on church institutions). Church administration will be presented in context to other particular administrations and in connection to state administration in corresponding time periods.
Orientation in development of church administration from its origins to present, at all its levels ((arch-)bishoprics, consistories, chapters, monasteries, vicar and parish offices). Student will get overview about the administration of Catholic and non-Catholic churches and about their diplomatic materials. Acquired knowledge can be applied on work with particular archive material.
Prerequisites
General knowledge of historical development of the Czech lands. Advantage of other courses connected to history of administration.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Student performance

Attendance at least 80%. Credits on the basis of active participation during the seminar and for written administrative development of chosen parish (powerpoint presentation). Oral exam.
