Course content
1. Introduction to Historical metrology ad Auxiliary Historical Discipline, object of interest, terms used and methodology. Literature of Historical metrology. Origins of different metrological systems. 2. Metrological systems in the Czech lands I. Distance, square and capacity until implementation of lower-austrian sizes and weights, local and professional spread of sizes and weights. 3. Metrological systems in the Czech lands II. Lower-austrian sizes and weights system, implementation of metric system. 4. Principles of conversion of historical sizes and weights, examples. 5. Introduction to Historical chronology as Auxiliary Historical Discipline, object of interest, terms used and methodology. Literature of Historical chronology. Day, month and year, their exact astronomical figure, different ways of determination of calendar. French revolution calendar and other radical attempts to change calendar. 6. Julian and Gregorian reform of calendar. Roman calendar and conversion of dates written according to Roman calendar. 7. Eras and epochs. Bonone calendar and cisioján. Conversion of dates written according to those datings. 8. Church calendar I. Holy days of sanctoral, Martyrologium Romanum and its forms. Conversion of dates with holy days of martyrs. 9. Church calendar II. Holy days of temporal. Church calendar reforms. Conversion of dates written according to church calendar. 10. Beginnings of the year. Division of the year and day. Conversion of different historical dates and other time figures. 11. Indictions, years of rule and of pontificate and other ways of determination of the year. Conversion of dates adopted directly from historical sources I. 12. Determination of dates of Easter, Easter tables and their genesis. Sun cycle and choronological figures connected to it - Sunday letters, concurents, Sun regulars. Conversion of dates adopted directly from historical sources II. 13. Completion of incomplete dates, use of Sunday letters, eternal calendar. Moon cycle and choronological figures connected to it - golden number, age of a month, epacts, Moon regulars and letters of martyrology. Conversion of dates adopted directly from historical sources III.

Learning outcomes
Aim of the seminars in Historical metrology is to introduce students to beginnings and use of different measuring (distance, square, capacity) and weight units and development of systems in the Czech lands. At the end of the seminar students will be able to convert different measuring and weigh figures from Czech and Moravian medieval primary sources. Aim of the seminars in Historical chronology is to introduce students to general rules of measuring time and different forms and reforms of calendar. Other chronological terms and their functions will follow. Students will learn how to convert dates according to Roman and bonone calendar, holy days of church calendar and cisioján, and also completion of incomplete dates.
Orientation in literature, terminology of Historical metrology and chronology. Student is able to convert distance, square and capacity figures, sizes and weights according to literature. Student is able to determine historical dates according to Roman and bonone calendar, church calendar and cisioján with help of chronological tables, including of incomplete ones. Student will understand chronological figures, which can be used to specify the conversion.
Prerequisites
No specific prerequisites. Advantage of knowledge or study of Latin and German.

Student performance, Written exam

Attendance at least 90%. Written test.
