Course content
Seznam tematických okruhů: 1. Classical traditions in the middle age and modern era. 2. Differentiation of Christians, its causes and consequences. 3. The roots of the "religious" wars of the 20th-21st century and their explanation. 4. The form of contemporary armed conflicts in the comparation with wars of the past. 5. The meaning and nature of land ownership in the past and present. 6. The differnce between modern city and the city of mediaeval and classical era. 7. The goal and status of the science in contemporary world as a result of previous development. 8. The legacy of colonialism and its impact on the present. 9. Changes of position of Jews in Europe and the Near East. 10. The development of the status of women in the society. 11. The term ?nation? and changes of its meaning during time. 12. Forming of modern nations in central Europe and the emergence of modern national states. 13. Positive and negative influence of the globalisation and its roots. 14. The term ?civil society? and points of view if its opponents. 15. The development of integration processes in Europe in relation to the Czech state. 16. Historical roots of the democratic conception of the Czech state. 17. Which phenomenas, events and periods of czech history were picked up by Czech political power and why? 18. The territory of the Czech state and its changes in the past. 19. Historical changes of relations between Czechs and Germans. 20. The structure and the nature of contemporary political parties in the Czech republic in the context of development since 19th century. 21. The United states of America as historical factor in the 18th-21st century. 22. The importance of Russia as an important element in the history of Europe and Asia. PZ

Learning outcomes
The conception of questions in final state exam in the bachelor degree is selected in the way, which allows students to use their own approach and view towards issues. Essentialy, there are two possible ways to answer selected question: One is to try to make a brief, overall characteristic of particular topic in the relevant period. Second possible approach is to describe discussed topic through the demonstration on one concrete example. Student chooses one question from either older or modern history. Student has enough time (circa 15 minutes) to show his opinion about the topic, examiners do not enter student?s speech. It is expected that the student is able to tell basic theoretical works related to the topic. Second part of the exam is reserved for questions from examiners, although the whole time of the exam should not be longer than 30 minutes. PZ
