Course content
The seminar aims at the acquaitance of students with various historical sources and to teach them the the analysis and criticism (manuscripts as well as editions)and also to use auxiliary historical disciplines in practice (paleography, codicology, diplomatics, sphragistics). The seminar deals with work with archival sources, editions or texts which are digitized and accessible on-line either in original language (mainly German, Latin) or translation. Every lesson tries to outline a certain type of a source (e.g. city chronicle, travel diary, letters, diaries, memoires, accounts etc.) and possibilities of its usage. This will be shown from a theoretical point of view (methodology, the attitude of historical schools etc.) as well as more practical one (a historical study which used this kind of a source will be discussed). In this regard, the course will be connected with the course Trends of current historiography II. This course established under the terms of the project Innovation of Historical Sciences Studies at Palacký University, CZ.1.07/2.2.00/28.0025. HF
