Course content
1. History of Latin script, reading of Carolingian minuscule and gothic scripts. 2. Transliteration and transcription, transcription rules for Czech language. 3. Ligatures and abbreviations, abbreviation symbols. 4. Reading of Latin liturgical books, orientation in medieval liturgical manuscripts. 5. Excursion to library with musical medieval and early modern manuscripts. 6. Vital records from 19th century. Ways of presentation of genealogy results (Family tree, family tree of lineage and direct line, cognate-consanguine tables), genealogy handbooks, dictionaries and programs. 7. Vital records from 17t and 18th century. Vital record annexes. 8. School records and records, annual reports and other genealogical primary sources. 9. Municipal books - marital agreements books. Basics in Diplomatics - types of official records. 10. Municipal books - book of wills and testaments. Basics in Diplomatics - forms of records, activities of the office. 11. Inheritance inventories. Basics in Sfragistics - description of seals and stamps. 12. Inventories of books and music materials. Editing practice - citing sources, their interpretation. 13. Inventories of music instruments. Editing practice - creating of footnotes.

Learning outcomes
Main aim is to deepen already gained general knowledge about Auxiliary Historical Disciplines. Seminars will focus on specific assignments associated with identification and interpretation of particular early modern written records connected to the history of music. It will deepen skills of students in description of manuscripts and reading neo-gothic scripts, students will get to read medieval texts written in Carolingian minuscule and with gothic scripts. Students will also learn about other auxiliary historical disciplines in connection with studied sources - Diplomatics, Sfragistics, Heraldry and Epigraphy.
Student is able to read texts written in neo-gothic cursive, partly written in Carolingian minuscule and gothic scripts. Student is able to describe manuscript in accordance with general rules and also has general knowledge about Diplomatics, Sfragistics, Heraldry and Epigraphy.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of heraldry on the level of course Auxiliary Historical Disciplines - Musicology 1.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance, Written exam

Attendance at least 85%, active participation in seminars. Homework in online application (at least 90%). Written test (transcription of text written in ne-gothic script, transcription of Czech text written in neo-gothic script, transliteration of Latin text written in Carolingian minuscule). Colloquy (discussion about primary sources for history of music).
