Course content
Lecture topics: 1. Brief introduction to Auxiliary Historical Disciplines, introduction to reading of neo-gothic cursive (kurent). 2. Terms of transcription and transliteration, transcription rules for Czech language. 3. Historical chronology - types of calendars, Roman calendar and Julian reform of calendar. 4. Historical chronology - bonone dating, cisioján and Gregorian reform of calendar. 5. Historical chronology - church calendar, holy days of sanctoral. 6. Historical chronology - church calendar, religious year, holy days of temporal. 7. Historical chronology - practising of dating, forms of dating in primary sources. Liturgy in the Catholic church. 8. Liturgy of the Catholic church - liturgical books: Liturgy of the Hours (breviary), Mass (missal), Sacraments (ritual, Roman pontifical). Facultative - attendance of Latin mass and vespors with commentary. 9. Codicology - description of manuscripts: internal characteristics, rules for description of manuscripts, registers of manuscripts. 10. Codicology - description of manuscripts: external characteristics. 11. Historical metrology - metric systems in the Czech lands, metrological handbooks, conversion of units. Numismatics - currencies in the Czech lands, coins and abbreviations for money in historical sources, prices and wages. 12. Archives in the Czech republic - types of funds, where they are located, archive handbooks, digital archives, ways of citing of primary sources. 13. Genealogy - general symbols and methods in genealogy (Family tree, family tree of lineage and direct line, different kinds of průbs and family trees).

Learning outcomes
Main aim is to introduce students of Musicology with basics of Auxiliary Historical Disciplines, especially those they will use in their work. Those include early modern palaeography, codicology with emphasis on liturgical manuscripts (with connected presentation about liturgy of Catholic church and liturgics), historical chronology (with emphasis on church calendar), historical metrology, numismatics and genealogy (with presentation about the archive system in the Czech republic).
Student is able to read texts written in neo-gothic cursive, convert dates from Roman and church calendar, cisioján and bobone dating to current dating system. Students has also general knowledge about codicological material (especially liturgical codexes) and about rules of their description and about evolution on currency and metrology systems in the Czech lands.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance, Written exam

Attendance at least 85%, active participation in seminars. Homework in online application (at least 90%). Written test (transcription of text written in neo-gothic script, convertsion of historical dates, interpretation of description of manuscript). Colloquy (brief description of music material from 18th and 19th century).
