Learning outcomes
Not only historians and other human scientists still pay a big attention to the holocaust. Journalists, writers and artists are dealing with history of holocaust /shoa/ either from the global perspective or through the particular topics, sites of memory and persons. Thanks to digitalization projects, new methodologies and financing of the memory institutions it is possible to develop a field of the public history as well. This course aims to deal with European Jews in the modern history and with their relations with non-Jewish society from the late 18th century until the end of the World War II and its aftermath. Based on literature and especially on the movie analysis the core issue will be discussed and explained.
Students will gain knowledge of selected topics of this period and they will be also familiar with the literature and motion pictures related to this course.
Prerequisites
Students are supposed to have basic factual knowledge of the 20th-century history.
