Learning outcomes
This course presents the most important dictatorships of the 20th century. It will not be focused on particular biographies but rather on the whole system they created and the anatomy of their power. We will discuss their beginnings and ends, how they established totalitarian or authoritarian rule, what economic model they pursued. Another important aspect is their influence in the World's politics and how they fitted in the history of the 20th century. The form of this course is a seminar, students will be given a lecture before each session, and we will debate the topic later in the classroom.
After the completion of this course, students will be able to understand the characteristics of the dictatorships of the 20th century and place them into the proper historical context. They will understand, how they rose to power, what instruments they used to maintain it, and how they ended. They will also comprehend the local differences between them because they will present a paper or short biography of one of them.
