Learning outcomes
Course will focus on the Paleolithic and Mesolithic material culture. Classes will present specific examples of mobile artefacts made of stone, bone, antler, mammoth ivory, ceramics and rest of the extant materials and in the context typological, functional, social and symbolical. Classes also concentrates to chronology of development and cultural classification of specific groups of artefacts and attention also will focus on the deposition of artefacts in the real archeological context and problematics of the ecofacts differentiation against artefacts. Methodological accounts ofarcheological sources will be demonstrated; artefact way from taking in the original locality, through its description, to final analysis and interpretation and publication. Students will try description of to and analysis of selected group of artefacts on concrete archeological material; description, creation of databases, drawing, photographical documentation eventually.
Proficiency in the problematics, orientationin current literature, ability to select appropriate methodology for work with different sorts of archeological sources, analysis and interpretation od different groups of mobile artefacts on a individual base.
Prerequisites
Basic proficiency in the problematics of Paleolithic and Mesolithic periods, knowledge from a BA level classes Artefactual archeology I-IV is necessary, completion of course Current trends in Paleolithic and Mesolithic archeology in Winter semester is recommended as well as submission to course Methods and Interpretation of Paleolithic research in Spring semester.
