Course content
Lectures: 1) Introduction (Vostrovská) 2) Ethnoarchaeology and experiment. Chain operatoire of pottery artefacts, ethnoarchaeological paralels, experimental production (Vostrovská) 3) Pottery petrography. Used technology of pottery production and its study. Classification of pottery artefacts according to voids, structure and usage. Petrography terminology, pottery raw material (Vostrovská) 4) Development of pottery production in worldwide scale and historical development in particular periods in Central Europe (Vostrovská) 5) Introduction to study of archaeological pottery. Terminology, basic division of pottery production - dishes and utensils, special pottery artefacts, textile pottery, technical stove and architectural pottery. Terminology of decoration and surface treatment (Vostrovská) 6) Paleolithic and Neolithic Period (Vostrovská) 7) Eneolithic/Chalcolithic Period (Vostrovská) 8) Early and Middle Bronze Age (Vostrovská) 9) The Urnfield cultures Period (Vostrovská) 10) La Téne and Roman Period (Vostrovská) 11) The Early Middle Ages (Šlézar) 12) High Middle Ages (Šlézar) 13) Late Middle Ages and Modern Age (Šlézar) The seminars and practices: 1-4) Introduction to the issues 5-13) Demonstration and working with individual pottery artefacts - their identification, description and practice of drawing documentation

Learning outcomes
Study of the ceramic production technology. Typology of pottery. Study of ceramic production since Paleolithic Period to the Modern Age. The ways of description, chronological classification and drawing documentation of the pottery.
The practical knowledge of description, dating and classification of the ceramicmaterial and the ability of drawing documentation.
Prerequisites
The basic overview in the archeological cultures in the Central Europe.

Assessment methods and criteria
Analysis of Activities ( Technical works), Didactic Test

Attend entrance turitorial - 1 hour: acquainted with contein and form of study subject, delivery resource materials. Attend at one study programm, which is realized by blocked teaching at UP whole day long - two lectures about Pethrograpfy of ceramic and Introductin to study of archaeological ceramic; 2 seminars and 2 exercises - selected examples of pottery production in each era in history and its documentation. Consultations - Consultations are not least the two at beggining and in the end of semester: determination of procedure of individual studies and establish tasks. When student need, he can establish more consultations. Student can select formo of consultation with lecturers - personal, by email, skype, facebook etc. Study is controled by series of tasks, which student does between consultations during semester. Tasks are in e-learning.
