Learning outcomes
The subject aims at introducing the students to specificities of historical archaeology, in theory, as well as in context of its application in historic preservation of the Czech Republic. The development of Czech medieval and post-medieval studies, its theoretic questions, basic aims and paradigms are explained. The emphasis is on the specificities of research in complicated situations of city centres, fortified residences and church buildings. The legislation and procedures on historically preserved properties and territories of the Czech Republic are discussed in context of archaeology and historic preservation. Cooperation with academic and executive organisations of state historic preservation. Protection, rescue and presentation of archaeological heritage are among the questions discussed in the subject. Basic trends of archaeological historic preservation, certified methodics related to archaeology and current projects (the so-called archaeological atlases a. o.). are explained. Besides the historically preserved territories, the lecture focuses on landscape archaeology, on individual categories of heritage sites relicts of archaeological nature in the landscape, on ways of seeking them, on their description, documentation and protection, up to ranking them as a heritage site of local significance, or even declaring them as a cultural heritage site.

Prerequisites
Basic orientation (bachelor study level) in Middle Ages and Postmedieval Period, and in medieval archaeology and archaeological historic preservation.

participation on the lessons (48 hours=2 credits); individual studying of information sources and colloquium preparation (50 hours=2 credits)
