Course content
1) Introduction to basic problems of European barbaricum archaeology (late La Tene Period, Roman Period and early Migration Period) 2) Forming of cultural areas, cultures and groups and their interconnection 3-4) Regional specificities and importance of particular centres of power of the barbarian (Germanic) society in Central and Western Europe 5) East European barbaricum in contact with the Roman Black Sea region 6) Settlement structure in barbaricum 7) Rich graves and structure of society 8) Economic aspects of the Germanic society 9) Germanic religious notions and evidence of ritual practices 10) Roman military intervention to barbaricum and its historical and archaeological problems 11) Importance and role of Roman imports and problems of their classification, processing and interpretation 12) Barbarian migration in Migration Period and the problems of acculturation

Learning outcomes
The lecture introduces the problems of barbaricum archaeology in Europe, eventually in Asia, Africa. The particular topics of each lesson are indicated below (see Contents). The lecture is followed by a seminary. The lectures will be realized by Tomáš Zeman and other experts from among Czech and foreign archaeologists and protohistorians, for instance prof. UAM dr.hab. Andrzej Michałowski (Institute of Prehistory, Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, Poland), PhDr. Jan Jílek, Ph.D. (University of Pardubice, Czech Republic), doc. PhDr. Vladimír Varsik, Csc. (Department of Classical Archaeology, University of Trnava, Slovakia), Mgr. Dagmar Vachůtová, Ph.D. (Institute of Archaeology and Museology, Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic), and others.
Good orientation in the area of study.
Prerequisites
The knowledge acquired in the "Protohistorie" (Protohistory), eventually the "Výběrové přednášky z archeologie 6 a 7" (Selected lectures on archaeology 6 and 7) subject of the bachelor study is necessary.

Active participation on the lessons, individual studying of literature on the topic in European context of La Tene Period, Roman Period and Migration Period.
