Course content
1. A ) Archaeology as a science ? subject and object of study, position in the fields of scientific disciplines, connected and ultimate disciplines , interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary cooperation. B ) Methods of laboratory processing of archaeological material. Characteristics of organic and anorganic materials in archeology. Methods of preservation of individual materials (clay, ceramic , stone, metal, bone, wood, textiles, leather, glass ?) . C ) The material content of the Palaeolithic age D ) Settlement areas ? types of settlements and their characteristics, environmental conditions , density ? . 2. A) Definition of archaeological terms and terminology, types of archaeological sources, their characteristics, their content and grading. B) The methodology of field survey (prospecting) ? surface collection, the visual exploration, sampling techniques, archeo-geophysical methods, aerial archeology ad. Surveying of locations, GIS. C) The material content of the Neolithic period D) Houses ? different types of dwellings, their constructions, usage ? 3. A) The principles of periodization and chronology, periodization criteria, types of periodization . Typology ? Its principles, results, criticism and possibles of current use. Comparative methods in archeology, the principles of analogy, of ethnographic parallels. Experimental archaeology. B) Methods of field research ? ways of reveals, preparation of archaeological objects and their documentation; destructive and non-destructive methods when conducting the research; stratigraphy, stratigraphic units. C) The material content of Eneolith D) Settlement objects? different types of housing objects, their characteristics, examples? 4. A) Dating method - absolute and relative chronology. Contemporary scientific and technical methods of absolute chronology (radiometry, paleomagnetism, thermoluminescence, dendrochronology, pollen spectrum method ?). B) Methods of excavating of monuments on archaeological sites. Methods of basic treatment of archaeological material in the field research, excavating an object in in situ, sampling, the use of chemical products in the field, laktoprofiles. C) The material content of the Early and Middle Bronze Age D) Fortifications ? development, characteristics, examples? 5. A) Outline of the development of archaeological methods and history of the research. B) The types of materials and their preparation for archaeological exploration and research. The procedure for the preparation of an archaeological research, practical advice during its actual implementation. Individual types documentation of archaeological research , preparation for finding a message and finding ways of drawing up the report. C) The material content of the Urn-Fields period and Hallstatt D) burial grounds ? types of burial fields, burials in settlements? 6. A) Structure of Czech and Moravian Archaeology - types of organizations operating in the domestic archeology, current role and hierarchy of archaeological institutions, communication between institutions, the role of archaeological institutions. Current archaeological periodicals. B) Archaeology in the current heritage preservation ? current legislation, methodology and mode of protection of archaeological heritage; SAS Czech Republic , ADC and other information databases for evidence of archaeological sites. C) The material content of La Téne D) The burial rite ? development of a funeral rite with specific examples, preparation of graves ?

Learning outcomes
The Final State Examination from archaeology examines the student´s knowledge gained in courses: Introduction to the study of archaeology, Theory of the archaeological research; Archaeological heritage and Museum archaeology; Palaeolithic and Mesolithic, Neolithic and Eneolithic, Bronze Age and Hallstatt Period; Protohistory; Slavonic and Medieval archaeology. Apart from this, single-subject students of archaeology should present their orientation in Ancient History, History of the Middle Ages and Early Modern History.
