Course content
Lectures 1. Ethnoarchaeology and experiment. Chain operatoire of pottery artefacts, ethnoarchaeological paralels, experimental production. 2. Pottery petrography. Used technology of pottery production and its study. Classification of pottery artefacts according to voids, structure and usage. Petrography terminology, pottery raw material. 3. Development of pottery production in worldwide scale and historical development in particular periods in Central Europe. 4. Introduction to study of archaeological pottery. Terminology, basic division of pottery production - dishes and utensils, special pottery artefacts, textile pottery, technical stove and architectural pottery. Terminology of decoration and surface treatment. 5. Paleolithic and Neolithic Period. 6. Eneolithic/Chalcolithic Period. 7. Early and Middle Bronze Age. 8. The Urnfield cultures Period. 9. La Téne and Roman Period. 10. The Early Middle Ages. 11. High Middle Ages. 12. Late Middle Ages and Modern Age. The seminars and exercises 1.-4. Introduction to the issues 5.-12. Demonstration and working with individual pottery artefacts - their identification, description and practice of drawing documentation.

Learning outcomes
Study of the pottery production technology. Typology of pottery. Study of pottery production since Paleolit Period to the Modern Age. The ways of description, chronological classification and drawing documentation of the pottery.
The practical knowledge of description, dating and classification of the pottery material and the ability of drawing documentation.
Prerequisites
The basic overview in the archeological cultures in Central Europe.

Assessment methods and criteria
Analysis of Activities ( Technical works), Didactic Test

Activity in seminar lessons, parallel tuitions with lector and individual work in practical exercises.
