Course content
1. Principles of regional-geologic classification 2. Geological structure of Europe 3. Caledonides, Variscides and Alpides 4. Geologic structure of the Czech Republic, main features of its evolution 5. The Bohemian Massif 6. Lower structure of the Bohemian Massif - crystalline basement units 7. Upper structure of the Bohemian Massif 8. Western Carpathians, Inner, Central, Outer 9. Geologic structure of the Central and Inner Carpathians 10. Geologic structure of the Outer Carpathians in Czech Republic.

  • Preparation for the Exam - 52 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
Geologic structure of the Czech Republic, main features of its evolution, characterization of main units.
The students should be able to - define principles used in regional classification of geological units - describe main features of the geological structure of Europe - define the main fold belts in the territory - the Caledonides, the Variscides, the Alpides - describe how the regional geological structure of the Czech Repulic developed - regionalize the Bohemian Massif and the Western Carpathians, describe the geologial structure of major geological units in the area of the Czech Repblic
Prerequisites
Entry requirements: knowledge of geological objects from a bachelor's degree. Credit: participation in seminars, essay on an assigned topic. Examination: knowledge of the regional geology of the Czech Republic.

Written exam
