Course content
|
The course is focused on scientific English and encompassment of English environmental terminology. The course has the form of conversation and reading, with emphasis given on the correctness of translation and explanation of English scientific texts, translation of Czech texts into English, and presentations on special themes. The course involves repetition and/or explanation of specific problems in English grammar which the students meet during their work with English texts, Prerequisite: basic knowledge of English from elementary or grammar school.

Learning outcomes
|
The course is focused on professional environmental English and encompassment of English geological and environmental terminology.
The students should be able to: - recall environmental-geological English terminology. - understand and explain English scientific texts, - translate English environmental texts into Czech, - write short English essays - prepare English presentations on environmetal themes. - apply principles of English grammar specific to scientific English.

Prerequisites
|
Active knowledge of English on high-school level.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Written exam
Reading and understanding of English scientific text, ability to discuss a specific environmental issue in English, translation of English text into Czech and vice versa; no more than two absences in seminars during the semester
