Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to provide students with the ability to read closely and critically scholarly texts in the fields of philosophy of art, media theory, and cultural analysis. In doing so, we will focus on current issues in philosophy and art theory, but also on the question of how artworks and aesthetic media actually "think," what kind of thinking they stimulate us to do, and what concrete means they provide us with to do so. The emphasis will be on the more general philosophical questions of art and culture as well as the applicability of specific theoretical concepts. The study materials will be divided into scholarly texts and cultural objects, with an emphasis on their mutual reflection.
Students get knowledge of art and philosophy, learn how to read and understand aesthetic texts, will be able to discuss their views and compare them both with the arguments of other participants of the course, and with the approaches of Czech and foreign experts.
