Course content
Biotechnology progress towards genetically modified organisms (GMO). Biological safety and ethics. Genetically modified microorganisms and their applications. Genetically modified plants. Genetically modified animals. Techniques of genetic transformation of different classes of organisms. Transformation vectors and their construction. Promoters used for functional expression of inserted genes. Selection markers and principles of selection of transformed organisms. Detection of genetically modified organisms in marketed food and food stuff. Expected future directions of development of GMO technologies.

The course is intended for doctoral students in Biochemistry.
