Course content
1. General principles of laboratory medicine and diagnostics, quality control, statistical methods, variability 2. Specific proteins in serum, plasma, cerebrospinal fluid. Laboratory diagnosis of inflammation 3. Internal environment - ABR, buffers, water metabolism 4. Liver and its disorders, examination of enzymes, hyperbilirubinemia 5. Kidneys and laboratory examination of urine 6. Diagnosis of myocardial infarction and risk factors of atherosclerosis, bone metabolism 7. Minerals, trace elements and vitamins, nutrition 8. Endocrinology 9. Tumor markers and possibilities of their use 10. Laboratory examination in diabetology and gastroenterology 11. Hereditary metabolic disorders and newborn screening 12. Analytical techniques in clinical biochemistry 13. Therapeutic drug monitoring, clinical toxicology

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam

Credit: 80% participation. Oral exam: 30 min, 4 questions (1 from General principles of laboratory medicine and diagnostics, quality control and statistical methods, 1 from Analytical techniques in clinical biochemistry, 2 from Clinical biochemistry of individual organ systems) A - answered 4 questions in an excellent way B - answered 3 questions in an excellent manner and 1 with minor deficiencies C - answered 2 questions in an excellent manner and 2 with minor deficiencies D - answered 1 question in an excellent way and 3 with minor flaws E - answered 4 questions with deficiencies F - no question answered
