Course content
Sodium dodecyl sulphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) followed by western blotting. Immunochemical detection of proteins transfered on PVDF membrane. Determination of the molecular weight of proteins by gel permeation chromatography. Protein identification using MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. Determination of the molecular weight of proteins using MALDI-TOF. Ion exchange chromatography of proteins. Light microscopy. Isoelectric focusing.

Learning outcomes
Students perform practical experiments with the aim to acquire skills in basic separation and instrumental methods that are used in biochemical laboratories.
To apply and practice fundamental biochemical procedures and methods.
Prerequisites
Students are expected to have the knowledge and skills obtained from successful completion of the following courses and laboratory practicals: KBC/BCH Fundamentals of Biochemistry, KBC/BIME Biochemical Methods and KBC/BCHC Laboratory practicals in Biochemistry.

Student performance, Systematic Observation of Student

Successful completion of assigned laboratory tasks, data processing and submission of the respective reports.
