Course content
Health - definition of health, basic terms, models and concepts of health. Determinants of health. Protective and risk factors of lifestyle, etiopathogenesis. Health promotion programs, WHO program Health 2020, National program of renewal and health promotion in the Czech Republic. Health education in the Czech educational curriculum. Program Healthy School. Disease prevention - primary, secondary, tertiary, general, indicated, selective. Health protection and responsibility for health, health promotion in the EU and in the world. Healthcare system, public health services. Disease - basic terms, stages of illness behavior, process and consequences of a disease. Health literacy - definition, history of creating of its content (up today; current situation). Implementation of health literacy into an educational process.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic Lecture(Interpretation, Training), Dialogic Lecture (Discussion, Dialog, Brainstorming), Activating (Simulations, Games, Dramatization)
  • Attendace - 26 hours per semester
  • Preparation for the Exam - 15 hours per semester
  • Semestral Work - 10 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
After passing the course Health Promotion and Health Literacy Development students should be able to: - Define health, determinants of health and models of health, - Explain the principle of health promotion programs and apply them into practice, - Explain the principle, the division and the prevention of a disease, - Understand and interpret the principle of healthy lifestyle philosophy and health education, - Define health literacy as a whole, - Argue the irreplaceableness of the individual health literacy aspects, - Find cross-curricular relations in topics of health education and other educational areas, - Enunciate responsibility for health, - Define the system of healthcare, - Interpret the implementation of health promotion into curricular documents (especially RVP ZV 2016 - Framework education program for primary and lower-secondary education 2016), - Show elementary knowledge of health promotion projects and programs, - Analyse health promotion in the EU and in the world.
After passing this course, students obtain expertise and adequate abilities that are needed for formation and development of pupil's health literacy.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance, Seminar Work, Written exam

Full-time form of study: active participation in lessons (minimum of 80% attendance). Seminar essay on a given topic (it must have the required structure, required range of standard pages and a list of references according to ISO 690). Insert the essay into Portal UP (section "My study" - "Semestral works") and pass the plagiarism control. Present the topic of your essay (in order to get the credit). Self-study - preparation for the written test.
