Course content

Supervision. - Management of changes in nursing. Innovation. - Risk management. Safety of care. Managed Care - Selected Strategies. - Quality management in nursing. Accreditation models, standards, audit. - Case management. Planned release of the patient. - Preparation of an educational event (workshop, seminar, conference). Evaluation of the course.

Learning outcomes
The course aims at achieving orientation in the management of nursing care, risks and quality in health care (nursing). The course is designed to prepare students for human resource management, including assessment and rewarding. After completing the course students should be able to identify the risks of nursing care, as well as the occurrence of burnout syndrome among nursing staff. Students will learn how to implement the acquired knowledge in his / her pedagogical practice (impart knowledge to future health professionals).
Student: o is familiar with the the nursing management system; o is able to define concepts such as: coaching, teambulding, mentoring, supervision, ; o knows the principles of personnel management, teambuilding; o understands risk management and identification of risks; o is familiar with accreditation standards and quality measurement tools for nursing care; o is able to prepare assessment tools for employee evaluation; o is able to organize lifelong learning events (workshop, seminar, conference); is able to implement knowledge from the course into pedagogical practice.
Prerequisites
Prerequisite is the knowledge of nursing procedures at the level of graduation of the secondary medical school.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam, Student performance

- Attendance is compulsory at the first and the last lectures, at seminars at least 80%. - Written work on given topic (least 5 pages of text, submission at least 7 days before the colloquium). Topics for written work: o Fundamental problems of nursing in the Czech Republic and possibilities of their solution. o Current problems of a particular workplace - design solution. o Personal crisis in nursing and ways of coping with it. o Case study from practice - proposal for measures to rationalize care. o Prevention of burnout syndrome - proposal for a teambuilding program for nurses. o Preventing mobbing / bosing at the workplace. Colloquium: Knowledge of subject matter from thematic areas.
