Course content
Definition of quality of life and its relation to modern medicine and society. An overview of significant historical facts associated with the development of a concept of quality of life. Analysis of the main and in practice terms used in terms of quality of life. Dimensions of quality of life. Theoretical and methodological problems of quality of life and related concepts. Personality and sociodemographic factors in relation to the quality of life and coping with discomfort and disease resilience, hardiness, coping, body image, sence of coherence self-efficacy, self-esteem, well-being, social support, socio-economic status. Principles of measurement and assessment of quality of life. Life quality assessment tools. Quality of life in clinical practice. Quality of life of individuals with pain. Measurement of quality of life focused on chronic diseases. Specifics of the quality of life of seniors in relation to polymorbidity. Value orientation and attitudes of individuals to the quality of their lives.

Learning outcomes
The main objective of the discipline is the application of the theoretical knowledge of the concept of quality of life and its dimensions. Formulation of personality and sociodemographic factors in relation to the quality of life and the management of discomfort and illness. Approximation of life quality assessment tools in clinical practice. Value orientation and attitudes of individuals to the quality of their lives. Specifics of the quality of life of seniors in relation to polymorbidity.
After completing the course students should be able to: - explain historical views on the issue of quality of life, - to analyze theoretical problems in terms of quality of life, - Define basic dimensions of quality of life, - characterize personality and sociodemographic factors in relation to quality of life, - manage strategies to manage discomfort situations, - know the principles of measurement and assessment of quality of life, - actively use the tools developed to assess the quality of life.
Prerequisites
The discipline is intended for students in the field of Teaching specialized subjects for secondary nursing schools.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Written exam, Seminar Work

The conditions specified by the lecturer at the beginning of the term. Preparation of a seminar work on a given topic in the range of 7 normalized A4 pages including references to the used resources according to ISO 690. In addition, students will place a seminar work in the Portal UP portal.upol.cz in the section "My Study" "Semestral Work". Seminar work is automatically checked in the plagiarism detection system.
